West Fork is trained in the USFWS recommended protocol for ruling out the presence of Mazama pocket gophers in Thurston and Pierce counties. Mazama pocket gophers are protected under the U.S. Endangered Species Act and landowners planning to build must consider their presence as part of the permitting review. Our staff can assist landowners to understand the requirements for completing a gopher study required for permitting. West Fork has two biologists certified to conduct the surveys and will respond to requests quickly.
